While it seems like just yesterday that we revealed Phoebe’s nursery, she’s now almost three and recently became a big sister to baby brother Henry. Mama Camille Styles realized that Phoebe was ready for an updated space. Working together with RH Baby & Child, Camille created a lovely room for her daughter that can grow with her for years to come.

Tell us about your design process. Did you start with one central item or idea that served as your inspiration?
When I first told Phoebe we were going to turn her nursery into a big girl room, her only real request was “a makeup table just like mommy’s,” so finding that perfect piece was actually the first place I started when scoping out new pieces for the space. I loved the classic lines and family heirloom quality of this lucie vanity, and we added just enough pink to make it feel girly with the maxine vanity stool in vintage velvet.

What was the most important thing you wanted to achieve when creating this space?
Since I hadn’t changed up the decor of Phoebe’s nursery since she was born, we thought it was time for our almost 3-year-old to have a room that was a little more in-line with the big girl she’s growing into. And since we’ve had a baby on the way soon, I knew we’d be moving the changing table and a few other baby items into his nursery, leaving room for some fun new design elements.

What is your favorite thing about the room?
I love the corner of the room that houses her beanbag chair and hanging canopy. There’s something about having a little hideaway that just feels magical to a kid—like a true place of her own. Phoebe loves to play hide-and-seek with the curtains and curling up in the beanbag with her “babies” and a book.

Do you have any words of advice for other designers and parents?
When planning a nursery, choose a few pieces that will grow with your child and won’t feel overly babyish a couple years down the road. As I can attest: that tiny baby will be a “big girl” (or boy) in the blink of an eye!
