Description
This is the nursery I created for my son Kyleb. He's now 3, and it's been transformed ito a "big boy" room - which was the whole point of the room. I wanted something cool & modern for a baby boy that could be easily transformed into a room he could grow in up until High School.
Design Inspiration
We live in Nebraska - and I wanted to create a "surf" themed room - something you're not normally going to see in the midwest.
Decorating Style
Modern, Contemporary, Clean Lines, Ecclectic
Project Details
All paint came from Lowes, and I painted the stripes by just taping everything off and doing it myself. The rocking chair & changing table were painted with the same paint as the walls to match. (Changing table was white & belonged to my daughter first.. rocking chair was mine when I was a baby back in the 70's). Crib, Dresser & End table are from the "Urban" collection of Munire. Ceiling fan was light woon & brushed nickle - and again - just hand painted to match the walls and resemble "surf boards".
Favorite Items
The ceiling fan - it was fun and something I did at the last minute!
Advice
Just go crazy & be creative. Re-purpose things.. don't spend a fortune trying to buy everything. I had trouble finding a crib dust ruffle in solid red - so I just bought a fleece blanket for $10 and cut the corners so it fit on the frame. I couldn't find a red bobby cover, so my sister-in-law sewed one for me with the left over fabric. The "Ky's Surf Shack" sign was actually a green palm tree that came with the bedding, but didn't match. I just painted over it to make it work with the room. Go crazy on eBay & Craigs list - you can find tons of things that can be re-worked to fit your room & design!

Where did the brown sectional shelf come from?

Love the room! I just finished my toddler's surf style room. I am curious where you got your "surf sun sand" decal? Would work perfect in his room.
Thanks!

Marianney: Here is a Link to the Ceiling Fan on Lowes.com - I just lightly sanded down the 3 fan blades, then taped them off and used a small roller & brush to paint them. I also used a tupperwear top to make the circle on one of the blades (just traced it with pencil, then painted it. It took about 2 hours to do 2 coats - really simple! Good Luck!

I want to do a surf theme too and I love the fan! You painted that yourself? The shelf on the wall above the rocking chair is so perfect. I've seen it before, but in this setting, totally looks like little surfboards!

Rweithers: Thanks for the comment! I honestly don't remember the exact names of the colors. The bedding was from Pottery Barn Kids, and I just took it to Lowes and had them match the paint to the fabric. I actually did this room about 3 years ago (my son just turned 3), and I don't have any paint left over. Thanks!
