Nikolas' room already had a fab basis of a room, with great furniture when I was hired by his Mum & Dad....we just needed to inject personality into the room. The room is quite a long room so put wallpaper behind the bed would have really brought the walls in, so we opted to put some Paper Boy Graffiti Stripes paper either side of the fireplace to add some interest to that wall.
It's little touches that really bring personality into the room....Nikolas' Dad barracks for the Richmond Tigers (AFL) so we added a cute little tiger print to the gallery wall and they already had the superhero print, so we added a superhero cushion to the little egg chair (by Incy Interiors - now discontinued).
Nikolas' parents did a wonderful job putting the room together based on my design!
Advice
When designing your little ones room, really think about what they and you as a family love doing. Just because they might love trains, doesn't mean you have to do a thomas themed room....perhaps add a funky train cushion to the bed instead. In Nikolas' case, his parents had travelled in the USA (and loved New York), so the decals above his bed are a little testament to that.
