Vintage Classic Boy’s Room

Description

This room uses chocolate browns with highlights of red to add that twist on a modern classic. An old wooden sign and metal letter signs give it the vintage charm.

Design Inspiration

The Asher Collection from Serena and Lily was our inspiration for my son's big boy bedroom. The duvet has chocolate brown and white rugby stripes finished with a red piping stripe. We did a DIY Board and Batten technique around the room. We used lattice strips and a wide chair rail to add a slight shelf.

Decorating Style

I would probably describe my decorating style as classic traditional with an eclectic twist.

Project Details

  • The Asher Collection from Serena and Lily was our inspiration for my son's big boy bedroom. The duvet has chocolate brown and white rugby stripes finished with a red piping stripe. We did a DIY Board and Batten technique around the room. We used lattice strips and a wide chair rail to add a slight shelf.
  • A wooden sign from Home Goods reads "No More Monkeys Jumping On The Bed." Maxx the monkey was a birthday gift purchased from Kmart.
  • The walls above the board and batten are painted in Benjamin Moore's Pine Cone. The linen shades are actually faux roman shades that my mom sewed. They are hung from a cafe curtain rod that I painted in the Pine Cone.
  • A shag rug with the brown hues adds a bit of coziness to the room. A wire lined basket beneath the nightstand houses some bedtime stories. The brushed nickel task lamp was purchased from Home Depot.
  • The vintage metal letter signs were purchased from Hobby Lobby. The red toy bins are from Badger Basket and help keep this room organized. A dump truck and a couple vintage books top it off. The vintage circus dancing clown music box was a garage sale find for $0.25.

Favorite Items

I would have to say the wooden sign over my son's bed that reads "No More Monkeys Jumping On The Bed."  It reminds me of my son and the smile he gets on his face everytime we read the book.

Advice

Always start with something that inspires you whether it be a piece of fabric, a painting or print, or even an object.  Then collect all your ideas in a notebook.  You don't have to spend a lot to achieve the looks you find in magazines.  I have found some great items from Target, Home Goods, T J Maxx, and even Home Depot.  It just takes time.

Nancy,

Thank you! I purchased the bedding online from Serena and Lily. Everything except the sheets are from there.

I absolutely love this cute and simple room! I like the brown and white, with touches of blue and red. It really fits a boy! And oh, that "No more monkeys jumping on the bed" sign is just hilarious!
